I’ve been eyeing the local strawberries that have just starting coming out in the stores and have resisted buying them because I know that mine are just about ready. I’ve been dreaming about having a nice big bowl of berries with ice cream and fresh mint. My mouth is watering now just writing this.
I went out to my garden this afternoon to check on my strawberries as I was sure I saw a couple yesterday that were very nearly ripe.
Guess what I saw?
Some little critter has left behind a nice pile of evidence hidden beneath the foliage.
Looking a little closer, I can make out tooth marks, so I’m pretty sure I’m dealing with a rodent of some kind.
I already covered the bed with bird netting a few weeks ago. Today I placed some potted mint and lavender right in the bed to see if that deters my little fuzzy friend. Can you spot the herbs hiding in the bed?
Does anyone else have experience with this? Any other suggestions?
In the meantime, I’m watching my small deck pot more closely…
