Back to School – Big Announcement (1 of 3)

Back to School – Big Announcement (1 of 3)

It’s been a little quiet around this blog lately, I know. It’s not because nothing has been going on but rather because a lot has. Between a family vacation to Hawaii, a mobile baby and active preschooler, Christmas preparations, choral concert season, and a project that will be announced in my next blog post, I’ve been keeping plenty busy. However, I have finally found a few moments to sit down to share the first of my three big announcements for 2018.

I am very excited about each of these three announcements as each plays a role in taking me further down the path towards my gardening goals. As you may have gathered in following my blog, I’ve decided to actively pursue my passion for edible gardens and I’m working to expand my skills and knowledge in this area.

So today’s first big announcement is: I’m going back to school! Well, I’m taking a night course. But that counts, right?

Starting in January 2018 I will begin the Organic Master Gardener course taught by Gaia College and hosted at Royal Roads University. This course will lay a groundwork of basic organic gardening skills including building great soil ecosystems, water-wise gardening, sheet mulching, and permaculture, amongst other things. This course is a first step in the Diploma in Organic Land Care program by Gaia College, which I will determine later whether or not I will pursue. I am looking forward to putting these new-learned skills into practice in 2018 and sharing the results with you here!

I’m just putting the finishing touches on my second big announcement. I hope to get it done before Christmas so that I can share it with all of you. It has involved multiple design iterations on paper, several Home Depot trips, power tools, and some chilly fingers working outside this time of year. It’s going to be great and I can’t wait to show you…soon!
